A talent that spans decades.
Mary Kay Place has been a staple in Hollywood since the 1970s. She got her start playing Loretta Haggers on the soap opera Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.
Place, 77, went on to snag other notable roles, including Meg Jones in the 1983 film The Big Chill, Floris in the 1999 film Being John Malkovich, and Pearl Smooter in the 2002 film Sweet Home Alabama.

The Emmy Award winner also worked behind the scenes, writing and directing for TV shows like Dream On, Friends, Baby Boom, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and M*A*S*H.
Of course, Place has also appeared on many television shows herself, like The West Wing, Big Love, Getting On, and Grace & Frankie.
Although Place hasn’t formally retired from show business, she’s not in the limelight quite as much. However, earlier this week, she was photographed running errands in Los Angeles.
Place looked comfortable, yet trendy in a blue puffer vest and sunglasses. She also appeared to be using a walker to get by, per pictures obtained by The U.S. Sun.

Place never married or had any children, a decision she’s more than comfortable with. “I have godchildren. I have nieces. I feel like I have a lot of mothering experience,” she told the Los Angeles Times in a 2007 interview.
“It’s enough to have life maintenance, family maintenance, friend maintenance and work maintenance,” Place assured. “I feel my life is chock full. I’m totally satisfied. There’s plenty. Life is good.”
The Oklahoma native’s last role to date was playing Grandma Bea in the Netflix musical The Prom directed by Ryan Murphy.
It’s unclear whether or not she has any projects on the horizon.
