Rock Legend Shares Bold Message About L.A. Protests

Protests broke out in Los Angeles, California in response to a number of raids conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s support lies with the protestors.

The 53-year-old rock star shared a snippet of the L.A. protests on Instagram along with a caption featuring the middle finger and ice cube emojis on Sunday, June 8. also included a live recording of “F**k Off” — a track off Saviors (Édition de Luxe), the deluxe version of Green Day’s 2024 album Saviors, which was released in May 2025.

Armstrong’s post had the comment section disabled on Instagram, but some fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their thoughts.

“Such a shame Billie Joe Armstrong decided he was a politician instead of a musician. I respected him way more when he just shut up and played the hits,” wrote one user.

A second user noted, “I love Green Day. I love you, Bill.”

A third user played off the lyrics from “Basket Case” — one of Armstrong’s biggest hits — and wrote, “Do you have the time to listen to him whine?”

The National Guard was reportedly deployed to the streets of L.A. on Sunday, June 8 following orders from President Trump’s administration.

Armstrong has previously been vocal about his political views and often integrates them into his music with Green Day. The band’s 2004 album American Idiot is widely regarded as an anti-George W. Bush album, inspired by events such as 9/11 and the Iraq War, which took place during Bush’s presidency.
