Watch: Ravindra Jadeja caught cheating by umpire; stopped from batting

Ravindra Jadeja, on Friday (April 25), had to change his bat even without facing a delivery during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The incident took place in the fifth over when the India allrounder walked out to bat after Sam Curran was dismissed by Harshal Patel. Before Ravindra Jadeja could even take the strike, the on-field umpire took out the gauge to test the bat.

In the gauge test, the umpires run the gauge through the bat to determine that the dimensions of the bat are well within the rules. In case the bat fails to pass through the gauge, the batsman is required to change it immediately.

Ravindra Jadeja is not the first player to change his bat for failing the gauge test in IPL 2025. During the game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings, as many as three players - Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Anrich Nortje - had to change their bats.

According to reports, the umpires have been told to test the bats to ensure maintain the balance between bat and ball is maintained. The officials do not want the batters to get an undue advantage from using bigger bats.

Talking about the game, CSK are in a spot of bother after being asked to bat first. They were off to a disastrous start as Mohammed Shami dismissed Shaik Rasheed for a golden duck on the very first ball of the match.

    Ayush Mhatre showed good glimpses

Sam Curran was promoted to number three, but the England star failed to justify the call and was dismissed by Harshal Patel for 9 runs. Ayush Mhatre was looking in good touch, but he could not convert his start into a big score. The youngster departed after scoring 30 runs off 19 balls.

At the time of writing this report, CSK were on 58/3 in the 8th over with Ravindra Jadeja and Dewald Brevis in the middle.
