Aston Villa head into Saturday’s FA Cup semi final having seen their three match win streak come to an end in midweek with a 2-1 defeat at the home of defending Premier League champions Manchester City, courtesy of a 94th minute winner.
Unai Emery’s side missed out on the chance to break into the top four as a result of of their defeat at the Etihad, but attention will quickly turn to this weekend’s FA Cup semi final as the Villans stand just two wins away from a first major trophy in 29 years.
Despite their Tuesday night defeat, the West Midlands side still head to Wembley having won 10 of their last 12 matches in all competitions and will be favourites to reach the final ahead of their bottom half opposition.
Aston Villa’s midweek loss keeps them seventh in the Premier League table heading into the weekend, currently two points off Newcastle in the fifth and final Champions League place, and only three points off the top four but have played a game more than a large majority of the teams around them.
Crystal Palace make the short trip across the capital to Wembley on Saturday having won only one of their last six and are winless in their last four following their 2-2 draw at the Emirates in a London derby on Wednesday night.
Oliver Glasner’s side had won 10 of their previous 12 matches up to and including their comfortable 3-0 win over Fulham in the quarter final of the FA Cup, which has since seen their form drop, to having now picked up just two points from their last four outings.
The Eagles are looking to secure themselves a place in next month’s final and a first ever major trophy in the club’s history.
Villa are winless in their last four against Palace but the West Midlands side are in the better form out of the two and are favourites to secure victory, and I think their big game experience will carry them through on Saturday to a 2-1 Villa win.
