Nick Emmanwori wanted so badly to be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft, because what big-time college football star doesn’t want to be?
The former South Carolina safety was a first-team All-SEC selection and a first-team All-American on top of that, as he capped his college career with a banner season last fall for the Gamecocks. But sometimes things don’t go as planned on draft night, and unfortunately, that was the case for the South Carolina native, who didn’t hear his name called among the first 32 picks of the draft on Thursday night in Green Bay.
For Emmanwori, his NFL dream will have to wait a little bit longer, though maybe just an extra day, as the draft resumes with Rounds 2 and 3 on Friday night. But that didn’t mean he had to let his fate bother him late Thursday night when the first round was over.
It didn’t.
Despite the disappointment, Emmanwori thanked everyone for coming to his draft party, complete with many hugs. After being mocked to go No. 24 to the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night in several mock drafts, it wasn’t meant to be. But Emmanwori handled it all in the best way, and that alone should make many teams anxious to take him on Friday night.
Here is the video of Emmanwori’s classy reaction to not getting picked in the first round:
