Girl dies after Thornton motorcycle crash that killed stepfather ...Middle East

A 12-year-old girl critically injured in a motorcycle crash last week has died, Thornton police said Wednesday.

Brooklyn Lopeman was identified as the girl injured in the crash near Thornton Parkway and Welby Road on April 15, according to posts on a GoFundMe for her family.

The crash also killed her stepfather, 38-year-old Brian Cirbo, according to the page.

Brooklyn and Cirbo were struck by the 17-year-old driver of a BMW sedan, police officials said.

The teen was arrested on suspicion of careless driving causing death. He has not been publicly identified because he is a juvenile.

“Thornton police investigators continue to work diligently to gather all the facts and evidence in this case,” the Thornton Police Department said in a news release. “We are committed to presenting the strongest possible case to the district attorney’s office as we pursue justice for both victims and their family.”

Brooklyn was “more than an athlete,” Thornton-based Prime Volleyball Academy wrote in a post on Instagram.

“…She was a light in our volleyball family, known for her spirit, kindness and unwavering dedication,” the post said. “Her absence leaves a deep void in all of us.”

Brooklyn’s mother, Devin Lopeman Cirbo, told CBS Colorado the family worked with an organ donation organization before removing her from life support.

Brian Cirbo, her husband, was a retired firefighter, she told the station.
