The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) were 110/2 after 9 overs and needed just 95 runs in 66 balls to claim just their third win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Yet somehow the Riyan Parag-led team lost the match.
Josh Hazlewood’s match changing 19th over
The equation was 18 runs needed from 12 balls. And RR had 5 wickets in hand. But somehow they couldn’t seal the deal. Credit must go to Josh Hazlewood; the right-arm pacer gave away just 1 run from the 19th over and bagged the wickets of Dhruv Jurel and Jofra Archer.
This meant that Yash Dayal needed to defend 17 runs from the last over. Not to forget that before Hazlewood delivered the 19th over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was taken for 22 runs in the 18th over. The pressure was on Hazlewood, and boy did he deliver. His 4-wicket spell will be remembered for ages by RCB fans.
RCB break 7-match losing streak at home
This also means that RCB’s home curse has been broken. The Rajat Patidar-led side had lost all three matches they’d played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium before facing RR. And they looked to lose another match at home. But a dramatic turnaround has handed them a victory. If we included the Women’s Premier League (WPL), RCB had lost their last 7 matches in Bengaluru.
