With the smart ring market becoming increasingly competitive, it truly takes something exceptional to rise to the top.
As part of my ongoing smart ring testing, I managed to get my hands on the RingConn Gen 2 to determine whether this twice-crowdfunded device ranks among the best products in the field.
RingConn Gen 2 smart ring, £349
BUY HEREHaving launched just four years ago, RingConn now boasts a global user base of 150,000+ individuals.
Said to offer exceptional battery life, the thinnest and lightest design on the market, and even sleep apnoea detection, this all-in-one health tracker is quickly gaining recognition.
To find out what all the fuss is about, I decided to test the RingConn Gen 2 smart ring to see whether this device truly lives up to its reputation.
How I tested
To test the RingConn Gen 2, I wore the ring continuously over two weeks, only removing it when it needed charging or when I was at the gym.
I wore the ring both day and night, using it to track my sleep, activity levels, overall wellbeing, stress, and more.
Focusing closely on the device’s build quality, the app interface, comfort, and features, I then assigned the RingConn Gen 2 a score out of 5 to evaluate how it stacks up against the competition.

Jack StrongWith a mirror-like shine, the RingConn Gen 2 looked a little bit too cheap for my liking[/caption]RingConn Gen 2 smart ring, £349
BUY HEREPros:
Incredible battery life (12 days) No add-on fees or paywalls Charging case offers up to 150 days of extra charge Extremely lightweight, thin and comfortable Sleep apnoea trackingCons:
Looks cheap compared to some of the alternatives Limited colours Poor fitness tracking Stats not as in-depth as similar priced competitorsRating: 4/5
With a price point similar to that of the Oura Ring and the Ultrahuman Ring Air, I was looking forward to seeing if RingConn’s device could live up to the hype.
While there are just four colours to pick from, the RingConn Gen 2 makes up for it by having a full size range.
I opted for the “Future Silver” colour in a size 11, and despite its extremely lightweight and thin build, I couldn’t help but feel I might have picked wrong.
The ring itself appeared shiny, reflective, and slightly tacky, giving the impression that it might not fully justify its £349 price tag.
Hoping its features would make up for it, I quickly hopped into the app and found a simple and easy to navigate user interface.
Over the next few days, I was impressed by the accuracy of the data collected and I particularly enjoyed using its AI health plan feature as a way to see all of my goals in one place.
In terms of battery capacity, the RingConn Gen 2 is really something to write home about.
After three days of continuous use, I curiously checked the current battery usage and I was very surprised to see my ring had 83% of charge left, giving it an estimated further 10 days of life.
In addition to already exceeding its 12-day expectations, the RingConn Gen 2 also includes a portable charging case that allows up to 150 days’ worth of extra charge.
Despite its many positives, the ring was massively underwhelming in the exercise department with only five modes to choose from and no automatic tracking.
I’ll undoubtedly continue to wear the RingConn Gen 2 in the future, I just hope that some updates are made to the exercise mode and the ring’s appearance fades and evolves into something less of an eyesore.

Having already spent some time using both the Ultrahuman Ring Air and the Amazfit Helio Ring, I was keen to see if RingConn‘s crowdfunded effort could cement itself as my current favourite.
A lot like the others, before I could get my RingConn journey started, I had to get my hands on one of its free sizing kits.
Simple and to the point, the kit provided me with my size for this particular brand, and I placed an order for one of its “Future Silver”-coloured devices.
Upon arrival, I was impressed by the packaging and design, but I couldn’t particularly say the same about the aesthetic of the ring itself.
The ring was incredibly thin and lightweight, which is undoubtedly a positive.
However, when paired with its reflective and somewhat tacky design, this gave the device an inherently cheap feel.
That said, after viewing some user photos of the “Midnight Black” and “Royal Gold” colours online, they appeared to be far more desirable.
Looks aside, the setup for the ring was incredibly straightforward, and within minutes I was ready to go.
Jack StrongThe charging case offers a massive 150 days’ worth of charge when unplugged[/caption]RingConn Gen 2 smart ring, £349
BUY HERETurning to the connectivity tab, I was really quite shocked to see my device had an estimated 12 days’ worth of battery life ahead of it.
You also get a portable charging case that offers a whopping 150 extra days’ worth of charge while on the move.
Baffled by the idea that I wouldn’t have to attach the ring and charger port to a plug socket for over five months if I didn’t want to, it was evident the RingConn Gen 2 has easily got the best battery out of all the devices I had tested.
Similar to its competitors, the RingConn app showcases data under four key sections:
Sleep (heart rate, skin temp, time asleep, efficiency, HRV) Relax status (stress levels) Activity (calories, steps, standing duration, exercise) Vitals (BPM, Sp02, HRV, skin temperature)As well as frequent updates, the app also offers actionable insights for each of these factors, just not to the level of the Ultrahuman for example.
Much like Amazfit, RingConn’s AI coaching offers users the ability to make tailored health plans to follow, complete with suggested goals and badges for a degree of gamification.
Despite being someone who doesn’t usually entertain these features, RingConn’s AI health plans did create a helpful place to see all my relevant data in one place.
On the downside, I found the RingConn Gen 2’s exercise features to be wholly underdeveloped.
There were only five exercise options in total and none are capable of automatically detecting when you begin exercising.
Daily sleep, activity, relax and vital scores are great for keeping yourself in checkRingConn Gen 2 smart ring, £349
BUY HEREDuring a particularly vigorous indoor cycle, the RingConn app said my heart rate didn’t exceed 100 bpm, which given the level of exertion, was completely inaccurate.
Oddly enough, the ring had no issues recording data when I was simply walking, so I’m unsure whether this was an isolated error or whether the heart rate sensor struggles to keep up when it is well above the average.
One of the unique features of the RingConn Gen 2 lies within its sleep apnoea tracking.
By monitoring breathing patterns and blood oxygen levels, the ring claims it can detect bouts of sleep apnoea with 90.7% accuracy.
As someone who doesn’t suffer from sleep apnoea, I can’t attest to the legitimacy of this claim, but I can see why this might be useful for others.
Generally speaking, the RingConn Gen 2 may not be without its faults, but for day-to-day use, it’s hard to fault this device.
I’ve been particularly impressed by the battery life, sleep tracking and general insights, and I found the app user interface easy enough to navigate after the first few tries.
The ring did let me down from a fitness tracking perspective, and I’m still not sold by the tin-like aesthetic, but if you’re willing to overlook these points, then you’ve got one hell of a product on your hands.

BUY HERERingConn Gen 2: the verdict
While I wasn’t particularly impressed by the look of the RingConn Gen 2 nor its very limited exercise modes, I do still think it’s a great product.
The battery life is absolutely fantastic, made better by the fact you’re given a portable charging case that can help the device get up 150-days of charge.
Not only that, but I found the sleep tracking to be very accurate and the unique sleep apnoea tracking feature is the first of its kind on the market.
With how lightweight and comfortable it is, I’ll likely continue to wear the ring in the future, I just hope the extra wear dulls that reflective shine after a while!
