Devdutt Padikkal lords over Royals again
The Rajasthan Royals are by far Devdutt Padikkal’s favourite opposition in the IPL. On Thursday, the left-hander made merry once again on a batting surface at the Chinnaswamy stadium. With Virat Kohli for company, Padikkal smashed a 26-ball half-century, with four boundaries and three sixes.
The left-hander was particularly hard on Tushar Deshpande, while playing the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga and Jofra Archer with caution. It was his second half-century of IPL 2025, having scored against the Rajasthan Royals in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. The Royals are his favourite opposition, scoring two half-centuries and a hundred. The left-hander has 311 runs against the 2008 IPL champions, averaging 77.75. His overall career average on the other hand is 26.30.

It is a comeback season of sorts for Devdutt Padikkal. The left-hander struggled in his stints at the Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants. He could only manage 38 runs in his 7 innings last season. However, the stylish left-hander has returned to RCB with renewed aggression, and that has done wonders.
Devdutt is striking at 157.53 this season, a substantial uptick in his strike rates from previous seasons. Before IPL 2025, Padikkal’s strike rate was 122.43, well below the expected standards in the current t20 landscape. However, the Karnataka man has turned his game around, aiming for more boundaries. His left-handedness is a huge plus for RCB, who are a right dominated playing XI.
