Former Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir has recently openly admitted that he will leave the Pakistan Super League (PSL) if he gets an Indian Premier League (IPL) opportunity. Now, Mohammad Amir has polished his statement with an interesting twist amidst the ongoing PSL 2025.
Currently, the ongoing seasons of the PSL and IPL are underway, and Amir is representing Quetta Gladiators in the tournament. The Pakistani star, who retired from international cricket in 2024 and now holds UK citizenship, is set to become eligible for the IPL next year.
When asked if he would pick the PSL or IPL if both tournaments happened at the same time, Amir gave an honest reply.
Amir had recently said, “Honestly, if I get the opportunity, I'll definitely play in the IPL. I'm saying this openly. But if I don't get a chance, then I will play in the PSL. By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if given the chance, then why not? I will play in the IPL.”

Amir had also expressed his desire to share the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) dressing room if he gets selected in the IPL auction next year. Now, Amir said that his decision to pick between the IPL and PSL next year will depend on which league picks him first.
Mohammad Amir explains how he'll decide between IPL and PSL in 2026
The Quetta Gladiators fast bowler said that once he's selected by a team in either tournament, he won’t be able to back out due to the rules. So, it all comes down to which auction or draft happens first, and accordingly, Amir will take his call, but he feels IPL and PSL will not clash next year.

Mohammad Amir said in an interview, “I don't think IPL and PSL will clash next year. Because this year, the ICC Champions Trophy was everything. If I get picked in PSL first, then I can't pull off, as I will be banned from the tournament. If I get picked in IPL first, then I can't pull out from that league as well.
Now, it depends on which league I get picked in first. If the IPL auction happens first and I get picked, then I can't pull off and will not play in the PSL. And if the PSL draft takes place first, and I get picked, then I can't pull out from the tournament.”

Mohammad Amir reveals why he quit international cricket again
Furthermore, Amir has opened up about why he retired from international cricket again. After quitting in 2020, he made a surprise return to play for Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, after the tournament, he suddenly said goodbye to international cricket.
Speaking to Geo News, Amir revealed that he gave up his county contract to play in the T20 World Cup 2024 and even paid for his own trainer and expenses. But after the tournament, no one from the team management spoke to him or shared any future plans.
He signed off by saying, “A wise man needs no further explanation. If I’m not in the plan, then I have to think about myself. Now I’ve made up my mind — thank you very much to international cricket.”
