Larry David Mocks Bill Maher’s Dinner With Donald Trump in Scathing Op-Ed

Larry David made his feelings about Bill Maher’s recent meeting with POTUS Donald Trumpknown in a satirical op-ed for The New York Times.

In a piece titled “My Dinner With Adolf,” published on Monday, April 21, David, 77, writes in the voice of an individual sitting down to have a meal with Adolf Hitler.

Hitler was the dictator of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945, and the central historical figure responsible for World War II and the atrocities of the holocaust.

Although David never mentioned Trump, 78, or Maher, 69, by name, it’s not difficult to see the parallels.

Following Maher’s sit-down with Trump, the Real Time host, who up until that point generally had nothing positive to say about the president, referred to him as “gracious” and “measured.”

Maher went on to tell his audience the "guy I met is not the" same Trump the public sees.

Comparatively, David wrote of his fictional dinner, “Here I was, prepared to meet Hitler, the one I’d seen and heard — the public Hitler. But this private Hitler was a completely different animal. And oddly enough, this one seemed more authentic, like this was the real Hitler. The whole thing had my head spinning.”

The Curb Your Enthusiasm creator continued, “Two hours later, the dinner was over, and the Führer escorted me to the door. ‘I am so glad to have met you. I hope I’m no longer the monster you thought I was.’ ‘I must say, mein Führer, I’m so thankful I came. Although we disagree on many issues, it doesn’t mean that we have to hate each other.’ And with that, I gave him a Nazi salute and walked out into the night.”

Deputy opinion editor of The New York Times, Patrick Healy, wrote in a separate article that David’s piece “is not equating Trump with Hitler,” but rather, “it is about seeing people for who they really are and not losing sight of that.'"
