New Jersey Race Club’s Meghan Donovan has announced her plans to swim for Loyola University (MD) starting in fall 2025.

I decided to continue my athletic and academic career at Loyola University Maryland because of the phenomenal team culture that I was able to see on my visit. Every swimmer matters at Loyola, and it is beyond evident that the coaching staff will go out of their way to make sure every swimmer reaches their peak potential. I feel very blessed to be able to be a part of such an amazing team for the next 4 years.

Donovan is a breaststroke specialist who has continued to improve through her senior year of high school. She began her senior year with a 100 breaststroke lifetime best of 1:05.22, which she swam during a time trial at the EZ SC Speedo Championships Series. She’s swum multiple lifetime bests since then, improving to 1:02.97 at the Ithaca Speedo Sectionals this March. That means that in a year, Donovan has dropped 2.25 seconds in the event.

Though she was slightly off her 200 breaststroke best in Ithaca, she already set a lifetime best in the event in November at the NJ PAA Thanksgiving Classic with a 2:19.95. It was her second 200 breaststroke lifetime best of the month, as she improved from the 2:23.12 she swam three weeks before. Coming into the season, she held a lifetime best of 2:25.49.

These improvements helped her place second in the 100 breaststroke at the NJISAA Meet of Champions, then make two ‘A’ finals at the Ithaca Speedo Sectionals. Her 100 breaststroke lifetime best effort earned fourth, and her 2:20.90 in the 200 breaststroke took seventh.

Best Times (SCY):

The Loyola women are coming off a third place finish at the 2025 Patriot League Championships, though they have their work cut out for them replacing graduate student Lily Mead, who was named the Women’s Swimmer of the Championships.

Donovan should be able to help them in that effort. Her 100 breaststroke lifetime best would have earned a spot in the ‘A’ final and placed fifth. She also would have made the 200 breaststroke ‘A’ final with her lifetime best and placed eighth.

It would be huge for the Greyhounds as they refocus for the 2025-26 season if Donovan could make the two breaststroke championship finals at the 2026 Patriot League Championships. This year, the team only had one finalist in the 100 breaststroke—senior Avery Stimmel who won the ‘B’ final—and one ‘C’ finalist in the 200 breaststroke.

Donovan’s lifetime bests in both events would have been second on the team’s depth chart this season after Mead.

She joined Natalie Lomonosov, Riley McGerald, Annie Dockx, Cecilia Van Lierop, Maria Francescotti, Bryce Gold, Simone Abbasi, Hailey Hayes, Elise Bredbenner, Abby Hayes, and Molly Hoben in the Loyola women’s recruiting class of 2025.
