TRADER Joe’s shoppers have expressed their frustrations over the grocer’s merchandising strategy, calling out its increasing number of seasonal items.
As shoppers speculated that the chain was revamping its product selection, others spoke out in defense of the specialty grocery store.
One of the many appeals of Trader Joe’s is its seasonal selection, characterized by unique, holiday- or season-specific products.
The company stocks its shelves with the festive products during certain times of the year, with many shoppers considering the seasonal items to be a highlight of the store’s offerings.
Some examples of Trader Joe’s seasonal products include its Pumpkin Flavored Joe-Joe’s for fall, Gingerbread People Cookies for winter, and Dark Chocolate Mini Heart Cookies for Valentine’s Day.
The creative lineup of products offers fans a fun and exciting shopping experience, keeping the shopping experience fresh and encouraging repeat visits from customers.
While many look forward to getting their hands on Trader Joe’s seasonal products, some shoppers have pointed out a key issue with the company’s product rotation plan.
They argue that the specialty grocer has slowly become too excessive with its seasonal selection.
Shoppers have taken to social media to express their anger at the grocery’s product overhaul, hitting out that some of their favorite items are becoming “seasonal”.
According to a post on Facebook, one shopper said they didn’t like it arguing that they liked to eat their favorite items “all year long”.
“It seems like lots of items are becoming ‘seasonal’”the shopper said.
“I don’t know about most people, but I eat chocolate chunks and regular graham crackers all year long!
“Also don’t limit my candle burning to the holidays.”
The commenter went on to explain that graham crackers and chocolate chunks were “pretty standard staples and that there was no explanation for why something was seasonal.
“There have been several items I’ve recently been randomly told are “seasonal”,” she wrote.
FANS DISAPPOINTED
“Gotta say, I was also disappointed when they got rid of brownie bites in the pound tub, then brought them back in a small tray of 6 or 8.”
Some shoppers agreed, saying that the increased number of seasonal items was disappointing.
“Totally agree…everything seems to be seasonal and I’m betting many/most of us use/eat or drink all freaking year round,” they wrote.
The same Trader Joe’s fan went on to explain how they had been going to the store “for years” and had started to buy less than he used to due to the increase in seasonal items.
UNIQUE AND POPULAR
But others backed Trader Joe’s approach, saying it helped make room for new products.
Also, they said the strategy was what made the grocery chain “so unique and popular”.
“Out with the old and in with the new,” the commenter said.
“That’s what makes Trader Joe’s so unique and popular. They must make room on the shelves for new products. Bravo!!!!
Another fan supported Trader Joe saying that people did not understand their business model.
“Just tell us you don’t understand Trader Joe’s business model, and we can explain it,” they said.
