Cameron Menzies has announced he’s leaving plumbing following an excellent start to 2025 on the oche.
The Scotsman has been working with his tools alongside appearances on the PDC Tour in recent years.
Menzies won his second PDC ranking title earlier this month when he beat fellow countryman Peter Wright in the Players Championship 11 final.
After the triumph in Leicester, the 35-year-old revealed that he was late to the venue due to traffic on the M1 after a bad crash.
He also hinted at quitting his job to complete a dream full-time switch to darts, a decision that has now been confirmed.
“Officially done with the plumbing game for at least 2 years,” Menzies said on his X account.
Menzies, whose girlfriend Fallon Sherrock is also on the PDC Tour, is currently ranked 36th in the world.
Speaking further on nearly missing out on his win over Wright, he said: “I thought I was going to be late.
“I had to phone the PDC because you have a time limit. I had to say I might be ten or 20 minutes late. There was a bad crash on the M1.
“I really hope they are okay because clearly it was bad. It happened on the southbound, but they shut the northbound as well.
“It was an air ambulance and stuff. I was stuck there for two hours.”
Menzies’ first PDC title victory came at the Players Championship 29 in October when he beat Stephen Bunting.
Menzies has decided to walk away from his plumbing careerGettyHe is yet to win a major event on the tour but that could very well change now he’s taking to his darts full-time.
The now former plumber was back on the oche on Friday for the 2025 German Darts Grand Prix.
Menzies beat Kevin Doets 6-4 to advance into a second round clash with Ryan Searle.
But he couldn’t sustain his momentum and was beaten 6-2 to send him out before the final rounds on Monday.
The Scotsman came in for some heavy abuse during the World Darts Championship, and revealed he needed help to overcome it.
Menzies crashed out in the first round at the Alexandra Palace to an opponent ranked 130th in the world and was in floods of tears.
Menzies has fought back from his disappointing appearance at the World Darts ChampionshipPDC TVAt the same time as his appearance, his father, Ricky, was in hospital after a triple bypass operation.
During the match, he was targeted by anti-Scotland chants and every miss was jeered.
He opened up about that experience earlier this year, and said: “I got a lot of s**t and a lot of badness. The most important person in my life was going through a bad time and I was getting a lot of abuse for it.
“I just wanted to be more chilled these days because I don’t like the way that I am.
“The Worlds [Championship] hurt a lot, I’ve kind of changed a little bit because I think I fell out of love with the sport.
“I grew up with this sport and then I needed support and got slandered.”
The fact just months later, Menzies has turned full time is a testament to his character.
