According to a press release, the new venture is thanks to a partnership with Alsea, a leading restaurant operator in Latin America and Europe.
Chipotle said it expects to open its first location in Mexico by early 2026, and around that same time, it will also begin exploring additional expansion markets in the region.
The big news comes just shy of a month after Chipotle was forced to address a "very eerie" report that suggested it would be the next chain to shudder restaurant locations. At the time, a rep for the company said the claims were nothing more than rumors and "false information stemmed from an inaccurate online article confusing Chipotle with a venture it tested in 2023."
The spokesperson for the Mexican-inspired chain also teased that the company had big plans to grow this year following a 14.6 percent increase in total revenue in 2024 during a Feb. 4 earnings call, even after fans claimed they would "riot" over rising prices.
"We anticipate opening between 315 to 345 new restaurants this year, with at least 80 percent including a (digital drive-thru) Chipotlane," the rep shared at the time.

Now, we know that growth includes the brand's first-ever restaurant in Mexico.
"We are confident that our responsibly sourced, classically-cooked real food will resonate with guests in Mexico," Chipotle exec Nate Lawton said in a April 21 press release. "The country's familiarity with our ingredients and affinity for fresh food make it an attractive growth market for our company."
Alsea CEO Armando Torrado noted that the company is "proud to work with an iconic brand like Chipotle and help grow its international business for years to come."
"Through this development agreement, we will continue to leverage our vast knowledge of the Mexican consumer and restaurant industry expertise to bring our customers the best food experiences and brands from around the world," Torrado concluded.
Like the rep shared a few months back, Chipotle said it still plans to open between 315 and 345 new storefronts in the U.S. and Canada in 2025, strengthening its growing presence with locations already operating over 3,700 restaurants in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Kuwait, and United Arab Emirates.
Other information, like where in Mexico the company is looking to expand, was not immediately available.
