The first weekend of the second half of the 2025 SEC baseball season is in the books, and the action did not disappoint.
We’re 6 series down with 4 to go, and Texas stands out front of everyone else. The Longhorns’ first season of SEC baseball might just end with a conference title.
Here’s a look at where everyone currently stands:
Texas – 16-2 SEC (33-5 overall) Arkansas – 13-5 (34-7) LSU – 12-6 (34-7) Tennessee – 12-6 (33-7) Vanderbilt – 11-7 (30-10) Georgia – 10-8 (33-9) Ole Miss – 10-8 (28-12) Oklahoma – 10-8 (29-10) Alabama – 9-9 (31-10) Auburn – 9-9 (27-13) Kentucky – 8-10 (22-15) Texas A&M – 8-10 (23-16) Florida – 6-12 (27-15) Mississippi State – 6-12 (24-16) South Carolina – 4-14 (23-18) Mizzou – 0-18 (13-26)Texas upped its lead to 3 games over Arkansas by sweeping an Auburn squad that came into Austin on a 6-game winning streak. In the race for the regular-season title, Texas picked up 2 games on Arkansas as the Razorbacks dropped 2 games to Texas A&M. The Aggies and Longhorns tangle next weekend in Austin.
With 12 conference games to go, it’s a bit early to be too concerned with the top 4 seeds in Hoover, but it’s certainly shaping up to be a tight race. While all 16 teams will play in the SEC Tournament, the top 4 teams will get a double bye to the quarterfinals. Right now, those 4 teams would be Texas, Arkansas, LSU and Tennessee, but there’s a long line of teams only a couple of games behind.
Speaking of the postseason, bubble watch never sleeps. Heading into the weekend, Texas A&M, Mississippi State and Kentucky could all be considered bubble teams based on D1Baseball and Baseball America projections.
UK was one of Baseball America‘s Last Four In. The Wildcats undoubtedly dropped that label that by winning the series at Tennessee. Kentucky looks solidly in the field.
Texas A&M was one of D1Baseball’s Last Four In. The Aggies, though, continued their incredible turnaround by winning the series at Arkansas. As long as A&M keeps playing this way, it makes the field of 64.
The publications were divided on Mississippi State. Baseball America had the Bulldogs in the First Four Out, while D1Baseball included MSU in Last Four In. The Diamond Dawgs did not help their cause by losing the series to Florida, but it was important to avoid the sweep. The schedule doesn’t look too bad down the stretch.
And then there’s Florida. The Gators are not even considered a bubble team right now, but they made some noise with a 7-game winning streak that included 5 SEC victories. If the Gators can somehow win a majority of their final 12 games – a slate that includes Texas, Arkansas and Alabama – they might just keep their NCAA Tournament streak alive under Kevin O’Sullivan.
