Milpitas middle school students set to compete in national Quiz Bowl

A team from Rancho Milpitas Middle School qualified for the 2025 Middle School National Championship Tournament Quiz Bowl Nationals, which take place May 9-11 in Chicago. Team members include Tejus Karadi, Stavya Dangaria, Shreya Ram, Parth Baheti and Purab Patel.

The team qualified through performances at tournaments organized by Texas Quiz Bowl Alliance between October 2024 and January 2025, where they finished second and third. They’ll be among 160 quiz bowl teams from across the United States competing in Chicago.

    Cars for careers

    The Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) center is hosting its 19th annual Bob McTaggart Custom and Classic Car Show on Friday, May 2, 5-8 p.m., at the Metropolitan Education District, 760 Hillsdale Ave. in San Jose.

    Each year, the event attracts hundreds of attendees who come to admire a wide variety of custom and classic vehicles. Attendees can also vote for their favorites in nine categories, including Best Car, Best Car Under Construction, Best Motorcycle, Best Bike, Best Truck, Best Club Participation, Best Engine, Ugliest Car and Best Paint Job in Show.

    The show supports SVCTE’s SkillsUSA chapter, a Career Technical Student Organization that helps students develop hands-on skills and leadership experience in preparation for careers in automotive technology and related industries. Previous shows have raised over $10,000 to support student competitions and educational resources.

    In addition to showcasing vehicles, the evening also features raffles, prizes, music and food prepared by SVCTE’s Culinary Arts students. Admission is free; for more information, visit bit.ly/4ik3zvX
