Valerie Bertinellis Ex Regrets Post About Her That Made It Worse Rather Than Better

Actress and TV host Valerie Bertinelli and lifestyle writer Mike Goodnough split in November 2024 after 10 months together. A couple of weeks ago, he wrote a since-deleted Instagram post addressing what people thought was a continuing back-and-forth war of words between them, denying that he was ever making comments about his ex.

Now on Friday (April 18), Goodnough once again took to Instagram to say that he wishes he had never written that post.

"I regret having posted it. I wish I hadn’t. The issue addressed was real. My post made it worse rather than better," wrote Goodnough on his latest Instagram post.

He went on to say that he loved Bertinelli more than anyone he's ever been romantically involved with, so that has make the breakup that much more painful.

The dissolution of our relationship and way it played out has been by far the most painful experience of my life….Over the last few months, I had hoped we’d find a way to a gentle parting rather than a closed door but couldn’t seem to get us to one. I reached out again this week in that hope. No answer is an answer though. I accept it," wrote Goodnough.

He ended the post by writing, "This chapter is now closed for me. I won’t have anything more to say about it - and nothing I have to say will be about it. I’ve cried about this enough. It’s time to move on."

The original post he is referencing is one he made on April 1 that he has since deleted (The Daily Mail has screenshots). In that post, he addressed people in his life or online who thought he and Bertinelli were making veiled references to each other on social media.

At the time, Goodnough denied that that was happening and wrote, "I am an adult. I am very capable of communicating openly and directly with people I know and care about. I care about Valerie."

But he went on to say, "Unfortunately, over the past two months, Valerie has been prone to lapsing into a place where she has been playing a one-woman tennis match thinking there is someone on the other side of the net. When in that place, she reads all of my posts, centers herself in them, takes offense over wholly imagined slights, and then lashes out angrily with a 'response' to things that were neither to her or about her.

"While I am disappointed in the array of hostile, dishonest, and uncalled-for backhanded swipes she continues to take at me, there is no war between us," concluded Goodnough. "She just won’t stop shooting. Valerie is in a war with her ghosts. I’m just the guy who catches the bullets. And that isn’t new."
