Rohit Sharma drops retirement hint, gets emotional over Wankhede stand being named in his honour

India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his emotions on the stand being named after him at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He said that it is an unreal feeling for him, and he will be forever grateful for this, as he never imagined something like this happening.

India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma will have a stand named after him at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Mumbai Cricket Association recently approved the stand in the name of the opening batter, along with the stands for Sharad Pawar, Ajit Wadekar, and Amol Kale.

Rohit Sharma's stand will be the Divesh Pavilion 3, and he will be joining the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Merchant, Sachin Tendulkar, and Dilip Vengsarkar to have a stand named after them at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rohit Sharma was honoured because of his contributions to Mumbai as well as Indian cricket. The opening batter has made a huge impact at the domestic level as well as the international level and is considered a legend of Indian cricket.

It’s an unreal feeling to have a stand on my name and I will forever be grateful - Rohit Sharma

Speaking on having a stand named after him at Wankhede Stadium, Rohit said that he will be forever grateful for this, and to get this honour was something he had never thought of. Rohit also dropped a retirement hint, saying that he doesn't know how much cricket he has left in him. He said (as quoted by PTI):

"It’s an unreal feeling to have a stand on my name and I will forever be grateful. You never know how long you would play, but to get these honours is something I cannot (could never) imagine."

India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma

Rohit, as a batter and as captain, has achieved an immense amount of success. As a leader, he recently guided the India National Cricket Team to a win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, ending the long drought. However, he didn't stop after that as he brought another silverware for the team.

Under the leadership of Rohit, the India National Cricket Team won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as well. What was impressive in both events was that they didn't lose a single game and played a dominating brand of cricket, registering comfortable wins.

Rohit is currently playing for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The right-hander has struggled big time in the league, as in the six matches that he has played, he has slammed just 82 runs at an average of 13.66. He would be keen to turn things around and make a strong comeback.

He will be next seen in action when the Mumbai Indians take on the Chennai Super Kings in their next game on 20th April.
