The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is reportedly set to name Rohit Sharma as the face of the T20 Mumbai League. Notably, the MCA has made it mandatory for Indian cricketers, including Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Shivam Dube, to participate in the 2025 edition of the tournament.
The MCA is set to organize the T20 Mumbai League from May 26 to June 5, following the conclusion of IPL 2025. Eight teams will feature in this year’s tournament, with two new franchises added to the competition. Around 2,800 players, including local talent, have registered for the player auction.
According to The Indian Express, the MCA has directed top Indian players like Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, Prithvi Shaw, and Shardul Thakur to take part in the upcoming T20 Mumbai League, provided they are not selected for the England tour.
“All Mumbai’s Indian players have been informed that they have to play the T20 Mumbai League which will begin after the IPL. It’s mandatory, unless those, who have India commitment or injury issues they can skip," an MCA official said.
Rohit Sharma is currently playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, but his role has mostly been as an 'Impact Player'.
There is uncertainty about his future as India's Test captain and his inclusion in the team for the upcoming England tour. Following India’s 3-1 loss in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, there has been speculation regarding his place in the Test team.
Indian Players to Receive ₹15 Lakh Participation Fee for Mumbai T20 League
The report also stated that the Mumbai Cricket Association will pay a fee of ₹15 lakh to national players as an appearance fee for their participation in the T20 Mumbai League. This fee is separate from the auction money, and the MCA is still finalizing details, including base prices for players.
“Indian players will be paid 15 lakh separately by the association as a participation fee plus they will earn separately from the auction fees. We are working on the base price and other details,” the official added.
