Ruben Amorim has been told exactly why he should have kept Marcus Rashford at Manchester United.
The forward joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season back in February.
It came just over two months after Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford, which soon saw Rashford fall out of favour.
The academy graduate failed to appear in any of United’s final 12 matches before his move to Villa Park.
Of those fixtures, he made the bench just once but was an unused substitute for the loss to Newcastle in December.
Rashford has since impressed since joining Villa, with the latest of his nine goal contributions in 12 appearances coming on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old’s stunning run helped set up Ezri Konsa for his side’s third goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
His displays have caused speculation that Amorim should have kept hold of the England international.
Former midfielder Danny Murphy agrees after being asked if the United boss made a mistake by getting rid of Rashford.
Murphy told White & Jordan: “I personally think he did by letting him go because of how poor the forwards he’s got there are.
“I think a manager worth his salt would get Rashford playing even in a poorer side. That’s my feeling.”
He continued: “The reality is when you walk into a squad of players, your first job is to protect yourself and get some results.

Antony also left the Red Devils on loan in January, leaving Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo as Amorim’s only senior wingers.
The latter is currently out for the rest of the season, though, after picking up an ankle injury in February.
Meanwhile, Amorim has won just 13 of his 32 matches across all competition having failed to win any of their last four fixtures.
Rashford may not even return to the club in the summer, despite his deal not expiring until 2028.
Villa have the option to make his move permanent, although Unai Emery revealed on Tuesday that a decision has not yet been made.
Amorim is guaranteed to finish the season with United’s lowest points tally since 1990GettyThe Spaniard added: “It depends on the circumstances for now and the next weeks.”
United’s woes leave them 14th in the Premier League and just three points above 17th place after Sunday’s loss at Newcastle.
It leaves Amorim at risk of recording a lowest league finish since the club’s return to the top flight 50 years ago.
United are already guaranteed to finish on their worst points tally since 1990.
