Nearly six months after Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner shared his incurable cancer diagnosis with the world, he's giving fans a new update on his journey so far.

"Until I have any symptoms, there's no treatment. So I go frequently for blood tests," Turner said on the podcast. "I'm on, like, a six-month schedule now, and I feel optimistic because the doctor has said, ‘Well, when you turn 75, we're going to have to go three-month increments.’ So it's telling me that at least he expects me to live another couple of years to get to that. But the bottom line is I feel really good."

He said the experience has also given him a new outlook on life.

"I mean this sincerely, from the time I got this diagnosis, it's a privilege to live like you're dying. I don't turn down anything. I feel like I'm more open to emotions. I'm more open to experiences," Turner said.

The 73-year-old reality star first revealed he had been diagnosed with a slow growing bone marrow cancer in a December 2024 interview with PEOPLE. He learned the news just before he and his final Golden Bachelor pick, Theresa Nist, decided to divorce after just three months of marriage. At the time, he told the magazine his top priority became "spending time with my family, my two daughters, my two son-in-laws, my granddaughters," and that meant he couldn't leave Indiana for where Nist lived in New Jersey, bringing an end to their relationship.

At the same time, on Bachelor Happy Hour, Turner said facing cancer means he's saying yes to more opportunities than ever.

"It makes life exciting because you kind of in the back of your head feel like you've got a lot of living to do and you don't know how long you have to do it, so don't turn down anything. And so, in a way, it's really a good thing."
