Film distributor Mahmoud al-Defrawy confirmed that Disney’s “Snow White” (2025) will be shown in Egyptian cinemas starting Wednesday, April 16.
This comes despite Kuwait’s decision to withdraw the film and ban its screening due to the starring role of Israeli actress and former Israeli soldier Gal Gadot.
Civil society groups had called on cinemas in Kuwait to refrain from screening the film, in adherence to the Kuwaiti and Arab popular stance rejecting all forms of cultural and political normalization, and in line with the official Kuwaiti position.
The Kuwaiti Democratic Youth Union called for a ban on the screening of the movie, stressing in a statement that the participation of an actress who served in the Israeli army is an attempt to whitewash the occupation and conceal its crimes against the Arab people.
They asserted that “our people do not accept compromise on their rights and principles.”
Gadot is a frequent participant in pro-Israel political events, including her speech at the Anti-Defamation League Summit in March 2024, where she spoke about the suffering of Jews and the rise of anti-Semitism, while ignoring Israel’s war on Gaza and the slew of Palestinian civilian casualties.
