Drake recalls Dana White’s remarkable $15,000 gesture in early UFC days: ‘I will never forget it’

Dana White once taught Drake a lesson in ‘etiquette’ after a wild gesture that cost the UFC CEO $15,000.

The Canadian rapper said that White was conversing with a bartender over ten years ago when he tipped her a whopping $15K to fund her photography business.

White generated $1.3 billion in revenue last year, according to ForbesGetty

Drake is a huge UFC fan and often sparks reaction with his monumental bets he places on the sports which often have hundreds of thousands on the line.

However, it was money spent by 55-year-old UFC spearhead White that attracted the attention of the Canadian.

”I saw him one time, and I will never forget it,” Drake recalled on a live stream this week on social media.

“I saw Dana White in the early UFC days, and this is what really taught me about etiquette, and how to treat people when you want to make them feel special when they least expect it.’

“I remember, I saw Dana White tip this girl who was super engaged with him at the bar, just being a great human being of service at that moment.

“This was years ago, probably around 2014, and he tipped this girl $15K.

“Because she was like, ‘I want to be a photographer,’ and he said, ‘Well, 15K should get you everything you want.’

“She was floored. So, shout out to Dana White. That was one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Ever since then, I tip crazy – if I order Uber Eats I tip like $500.”

Drake has built up a reputation through his interest in the UFC and boxing for ‘cursing’ fighters after meeting and betting on them, as they usually go onto lose – even against the odds.

Former UFC champion Alex Pereira attended a Drake concert before his light heavyweight title fight with Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313 last month.

‘Poatan’ was videoed sharing a brief moment with the Candian rapper, which left fans concerned that he may fall victim to the ‘curse.’

That’s exactly what happened, as Pereria went on to lose his title to Russia’s Ankalaev in Las Vegas at the beginning of March.

Israel Adesanya also experienced the ‘curse’ when he lost his middleweight title to Pereira at UFC 281.

However, Drake seemingly broke it at UFC 314 this past weekend after betting $545,000 on Alexander Volkanovski to defeat Diego Lopes in the main event.

Volkanovski survived an early knockdown on the Miami card to defeat Brazil’s Lopes, and Drake bagged a healthy $915,600 following the result.

Many MMA fans thought the bet would’ve doomed the 36-year-old Australian, but Volkanovski prevailed, and shattered his own MMA curse in the process.

Volkanovski was crowned a two-time featherweight champion at UFC 314, and became the first fighter over the age of 35 to win a title in a UFC weight class below welterweight.

“It’s good to be back,” Volkanovski said in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

“I’ve never felt the love so much. I was saying all week, even to the camera before I walked out, I said, ‘I promise my girls I’ll bring the belt back.’

“But then I was thinking, ‘It doesn’t matter about bringing the belt back.’

“I think the message was that a lot of people counted me out, coming off of two knockout losses, the 35-year-old curse, 36 years old etc., a big break.

“And come back to beat a gun like Lopes who came and brought it. It feels good to be back.

“Adversity is a privilege, you hear people talking about it all the time. It truly is. This moment is incredible.”
