Linkind’s smart bulbs are a hidden gem in the lighting world — easy to use, visually impressive, and priced to please.
I have been using smart lighting for more than a decade now. It really does make my life easier and I love the different moods RGB bulbs can provide. For the longest time I’ve used Philips Hue bulbs and recently I started adding some Govee smart bulbs into our ecosystem. The one constant is that any smart lights work with our Apple Home assistant either through HomeKit or through Matter.

While there are several different types of Linkind bulbs from AiDot, the following styles are the ones I’m focusing on in this review.

Each of the smart light products I received had a very nice retail package. The box is mostly blue with some additional colors that indicate a feature of the product. For example, with the A19 CCT, the bulb is shown as a warm white light to indicate that it’s not an RGB bulb. The same is true of the A19 RGBTW bulbs. Their product image shows full color around it since it covers the full light spectrum. There are some specs listed on the boxes, but there are a ton of details listed other than the connection partners (Apple Home, Alexa, Google, Matter, etc.). As mentioned above, Linkind light bulbs have a partnership with Jimmy Dart, so his image/branding appears on some of the boxes I received.
Each of the lights came with a small paper user guide that included the Matter code on the back. This was very helpful when it came to connecting the devices to our network of smart items since the code is printed on the stem of the light bulbs. So they are hard to get to once they are installed. Some matter devices can be connected through the use of NFC technology, but the Linkind lights did not seem to have that feature.
One thing I didn’t like about the light’s packaging was the lack of a unique identifier for the product. Aside from the bulb type, there wasn’t a specific model number provided on the boxes. The SKU was listed, but I was looking for something like “A19–001” or something like that. When I visited the AiDot and Linkind websites, it became difficult to determine if I was looking at information for the correct product since there wasn’t a unique identifying code aside from the SKU, which didn’t work on the AiDot site.
The first lightbulb I worked with was the A19 RGBTW. I pulled it out of the box, twisted it into a floor lamp and turned it on. It went through its startup sequence and into pairing mode. When I first connected it, I used the AiDot app. I was able to download it from the App Store, and it walked me through the steps of connecting the bulb.
Once it detected the bulb, I was able to select it from the ‘Add Device’ menu and then I connected it to our WiFi network. The app actually detected that our router was setup as a 5Ghz network and it gave me a menu inside the app to select a 2.4Ghz network. Our router is a tri-band router, so I was able to do this with no issues.
After it was connected to the app, I moved over to our Home app and connected it via Matter to our Apple Home. It was a very quick and painless process. There were no issues with it being recognized and no hesitations with the bulb connecting.
With the light on, I ran it through a few different color options and then I looked at it against the Philips Hue A19 I had in an identical app in the same room. I turned them both to the same color temperature white and was surprised that the Linkind bulb seemed brighter/cooler than the Philips Hue bulb. They were both set to the same brightness (100%), and I selected the same color swatch from the Home App. I turned both bulbs to the same purple color, and the Linkind bulb still seemed brighter. When I compared the specs, I found that both bulbs are rated at 800 lumens. After doing a bit of research, I found that it’s possible that the Hue bulb can dim when displaying saturated colors, and the Linkind bulb might maintain a higher relative brightness no matter what color it is displaying.
Philps Hue Bulb vs Linkind Bulb — Both are set to the same colorThe nice thing about the other Linkind bulbs I have (A19 RGBTW, A21 RGBTW, BR30 RGBTW) is that they all use the same E26 bulb base, which is standard for most light fixtures. The BR30 is designed as recessed lighting, so I installed it above our kitchen sink. The A19 CCT bulbs were installed into the overhead lighting fixture in my office, and the A21 (which is kind of like the ‘big brother’ to the A19) doesn’t have a permanent home yet. We are leaning towards using them in our living room lamps, but haven’t decided for sure.
I was very impressed with how the AiDot app handled adding additional devices. When I plugged in the LED Light Strip, the AiDot app recognized it almost immediately and asked if I wanted to add it to my home. In addition to that, it remembered the last room I added a light to and asked if I wanted to add it to that room. The app had also stored my WiFi network, which made it very easy to connect the strip to our network. Once the strip was added to the app, I updated its firmware, which made it possible for me to enjoy the presets that were available for it. The LED Strip was installed on a desk to add some additional ambient lighting to my home office.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how well these Linkind lights have worked with and how affordable they are. They have been very easy to work with and the quality of the light they produce is amazing. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to people who are looking for an affordable, easy way to upgrade their setup.
Conclusion
After over a decade of exploring smart lighting solutions, the Linkind Smart Light Bulbs stand out as a surprisingly strong contender. With vibrant color capabilities, full Matter compatibility, and a wallet-friendly price tag, they’re a great choice for anyone looking to expand or start a smart home lighting setup. From easy setup to the visually impressive brightness and seamless integration with Apple Home, these bulbs exceeded expectations in both performance and value. Minor quibbles, like a lack of unique product identifiers and no NFC pairing, don’t overshadow the exceptional ease of use and thoughtful app design that make the entire system a joy to use.
