Jet2 to launch new flight from tiny UK airport to popular destination – right in time for summer

JET2 is launching a new flight route from a tiny UK airport to a popular destination in the Channel Islands.

Bournemouth residents will be able to reach Jersey with a direct flight this summer.

The airline and tour operator will fly the first passengers on the cross-channel route on Friday, July 25.

But the connection will only run for the summer, with the last plane completing the trip on Saturday, September 29.

The flight will run twice a week, with departures on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

This addition brings the total number of Jet2 routes out of Bournemouth Airport to 22 – including six new routes.

In a vote of confidence for the airport, the airline has invested by adding an extra aircraft to its fleet there.

The flight will be a very quick trip for passengers – perfect for a long weekend.

Jet2, the UK’s largest tour operator, will also be offering package holidays to the island.

Holidaymakers will be able to go for deals including a range of three to five-star accommodation options.

Jersey is the largest channel island, and is perfect for people seeking an outdoor adventure getaway – boasting great hiking, surfing, kayaking and diving.

It is also described as having “aquamarine waters and vast stretches of white sand beaches”.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, said: “We are delighted to be launching Jersey as our latest brand-new and exclusive destination from Bournemouth Airport for summer 26, reflecting the enormous demand from customers and independent travel agents.”

He added: “With a great choice of flights and holidays available to this fantastic destination, holidaymakers have so much choice and flexibility when it comes to enjoying a getaway to Jersey next summer with Jet2.com and Jet2holidays.”

Bournemouth Airport’s managing director, Steve Gill, said: “We’re delighted to welcome this brand-new route to Jersey with Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, which means they will offer 22 destinations for summer 2026 from Bournemouth.

“It’s fantastic to see continued investment in new routes, with even more choice and flexibility for our passengers.

“Jersey is a beautiful destination with broad appeal and we’re confident this new service will be a popular addition to our growing network.”

Passengers taking the new flights this summer could have to contend with a major change to airport procedure, as boarding passes and check-ins are to be axed.

New airport rules could see passengers able to access their passports through their phones and flow through terminals freely through face recognition.

It’s thought the tech could be operational within the next couple of years, as reported by The Times.

It comes as the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) is working towards a “digital travel credential”.

This would see check ins scrapped and flyers relying on a “journey pass” on their mobile device.
