DENVER (KDVR) — Officials confirmed that a "containment issue" at a Chevron oil and gas facility northeast of Greeley has been resolved, days after the incident began.
The “well control incident” began at about 5:50 p.m. on Sunday as Galeton Fire Protection District crews responded to an oil and gas facility south of Weld County Road 74. On Monday, the Weld County government said the well was “releasing primarily water with some oil and gas.”
The incident resulted in 12 people being evacuated from their homes, which were within a half mile of the oil and gas facility. One Chevron business partner employee was also injured sometime during the containment incident.
Officials said during a community meeting held Thursday evening that they are still investigating what led to the incident.
The well was emitting until about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, officials told FOX31's Gabby Easterwood on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Weld County said that Galeton Elementary School is expected to remain closed through at least the end of the day on Thursday. It's unclear how the evacuations and school closure have been impacted after containment on Thursday.
