In a list dominated by one particular legend of the game, we run through the players with the most goal involvements in a Champions League season.
Barcelona are flying in 2024-25. They’re top of La Liga, into the Copa del Rey final and strong contenders in Europe. Under Hansi Flick, they’re eyeing a historic treble.
Leading the charge is a rejuvenated Raphinha, who is putting together a season to remember, especially in the UEFA Champions League. The Brazilian has been instrumental in Barça’s continental form, and his goals and assists have seen him surge up the leaderboard for the most goal involvements in a Champions League season.
But how close is he to breaking the all-time record?
Who Has the Most Goal Involvements in a Champions League Season?

Cristiano Ronaldo – 21Real Madrid, 2013-14
Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record for the most goal involvements in a single Champions League campaign. During Real Madrid’s 2013-14 triumph, the Portuguese forward scored 17 goals and provided four assists, contributing to 21 goals overall.
Ronaldo capped the campaign with a penalty in the final against Atlético Madrid, helping Los Blancos seal a 4-1 win after extra-time and clinch their long-awaited 10th European crown.
His 17 goals that season remains the most by a player in a single Champions League edition.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 20Real Madrid, 2015-16
Another entry for Ronaldo, who registered 16 goals and four assists as Real Madrid yet again triumphed in Europe, beating Atlético in the final (again).
Ronaldo hit three hat-tricks in 2015-16, a record tally of trebles in a single Champions League campaign. Two of those came in the group stage – against Shakhtar Donetsk and Malmo – and the other came in the second leg of their quarter-finalbagainst Wolfsburg.
The Portuguese star actually scored four against Malmo, with those helping him to a staggering 11 goals in the group stage in 2015-16, a record for a single player in the competition.
This campaign yielded Ronaldo’s third UCL title and the second of three straight for Madrid under Zinedine Zidane.
Robert Lewandowski – 20Bayern Munich, 2019-20
Robert Lewandowski came close to matching Ronaldo’s record in 2019-20, notching 15 goals and five assists in just 10 appearances as Bayern strolled to the Champions League title. The Bavarians won every single game en route to lifting the trophy, making them the only club to ever achieve that feat in European Cup history.
What makes Lewandowski’s feat even more impressive is the condensed format that season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From the quarter-finals onward, ties were one-off games rather than played over two legs, so Lewandowski had fewer games than usual to rack up his tally.
During Bayern’s winning run, the Polish striker averaged a goal or an assist every 44.4 minutes; that’s the best goal involvement rate in Champions League history (min. 10+ goal involvements).
Lionel Messi – 19Barcelona, 2011-12
Lionel Messi’s most prolific Champions League campaign came in 2011-12 when he scored 14 goals and registered five assists. It included one of the competition’s most iconic individual performances, as he became the first player to score five goals in a single match – doing so in a 7-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
That campaign ended in heartbreak for Barça, who were knocked out in dramatic fashion by Chelsea in the semi-finals. Still, Messi’s record stood unmatched at the club for over a decade – until Raphinha’s remarkable performances in 2024-25.
Raphinha – 19*Barcelona, 2024-25
A new name among the European elite. Raphinha has taken his game to another level in 2024-25, becoming the focal point of Barcelona’s attack in a season in which they are chasing silverware on multiple fronts.
The Brazilian has 12 goals and seven assists in 11 Champions League games this term, already the joint-most goal involvements by any Barcelona player in a single campaign (level with Lionel Messi’s 19 in 2011-12.
And Raphinha still has plenty of time to break that record – and the overall record as well – thanks to the Champions League’s expanded format in 2024-25. The new 36-team format gave Raphinha an extra two games in the group stage to boost his numbers.
With Barça 4-0 up from the first leg of their quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund, Raphinha looks certain to have more opportunities to climb even higher up this list.
