As Charles & Camila celebrate 20-year anniversary, expert reveals what William & Harry REALLY thought at the wedding

IT’S now been 20 years since King Charles and Queen Camilla tied the knot – which was eight years after Princess Diana tragically died.

Body language expert Judi James said that Prince William and Prince Harry displayed their inner feelings of “sadness” and “tension” during the April 9, 2005 ceremony.

King Charles and Queen Camilla spent their anniversary yesterday on a state visit to Italy, where they had a surprise private meeting with the Pope.

This came two decades after they wed in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall, followed by a Church of England Service of Prayer and Dedication at St George’s Chapel.

The late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip did not attend the wedding, despite the Queen having consented to the couple’s marriage.

However, they did attend the service afterwards and also held a reception for the couple at Windsor Castle.

Charles’ boys were in attendance and Prince Harry showed “sadness” during the service, according to the body language expert.

Judi told Fabulous: “During the service there was one painfully emphatic ‘tell’ from Harry though.

“As he and William adopted the bowed heads and fig leaf hand poses of their mother’s funeral, Harry can’t help but turn to glance at the bride and groom and the sad glower from his facial expression illustrates that sense of losing his ‘Pa’ at that moment.”

The expert said we can learn a lot from the official photo released of the family too.

    Divided family

GettyJudi said the official family photo showed their ‘distance’[/caption]

Judi explained: “The official photo seems to define the dawn of the seismic splits that were going to rip the family apart.

“Charles’ jolly smile suggests a man who feels he has got his own way at last and imagines that, therefore, all must be well in the world.

“William stands close to his father with a compliantly mirrored pose and although his smile is rigid-looking enough to suggest tension, it would work in terms of a display of cheery loyalty.

“Harry though is ‘apart’ from the group in terms of the spatial positioning.

“There’s no overlap here to unite him with the others and he is the only one not looking into the camera.

“He looks off to his right as though distracted or seeking escape and his smile is a forced gesture he has not been seen using before or since.”

    Inside Charles and Camilla's relationship

CHARLES and Camilla’s relationship began back in 1971 when the pair were introduced by a mutual friend.

Aged 23, they quickly became close friends talking for hours on the phone and spending as much time together as possible.

However, the relationship never progressed amid warnings from Charles’ great-uncle Lord Mountbatten that Camilla was not “sufficiently aristocratic” to marry into the Royal Family.

The then-Prince of Wales tied the knot with Diana in 1981 upon his family’s recommendation – but the People’s Princess called the relationship “tricky” as she knew how much Charles loved Camilla.

She claimed that before her wedding, she found out Charles had a bracelet made with the initials “G” and “F” for Gladys and Fred – pet names Camilla and Charles had for each other.

She also found photos of Camilla in Charles’ diary on their honeymoon, as well as cufflinks with the initials “C” and “C” intertwined.

Five years on from their spectacular wedding, Charles and Diana’s marriage was lost – with Camilla firmly back in the picture.

Charles and Diana divorced in 1996, before her death in 1997.

King Charles II wed Camilla Parker-Bowles on April 9 2005, nearly eight years after his ex-wife and mother to his sons, Princess Diana, tragically died.

    Harry’s account

Prince Harry wrote about the wedding in his bombshell Spare memoir, and admitted he had “complex feelings” about the day.

He wrote: “When the wedding did finally take place—without Granny, who chose not to attend—it was almost cathartic for everyone, even me.

“Standing near the altar I mostly kept my head bowed, eyes on the floor, just as I had during Mummy’s funeral, but I did sneak several long peeks at the groom and the bride and each time I thought: Good for you. Though, also: Goodbye.

“I knew without question that this marriage would take Pa away from us. Not in any real sense, not in any deliberate or malicious way, but nevertheless— away.

“He was entering a new space, a closed space, a tightly insular space.

“Willy and I would see less of Pa, I predicted, and that left me with mixed feelings.

“I didn’t relish losing a second parent, and I had complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who, I believed, had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar.

“But I saw Pa’s smile and it was hard to argue with that, and harder still to deny the cause: Camilla.”

Charles and Camilla’s wedding marked the first time a Royal Family member wed in a civil ceremony in England.

And Camilla did not wear white on her big day, instead she wore an embellished blue-gold dress coat by Robinson Valentine.

Camilla grew up in East Sussex before marrying British Army officer, Andrew Parker Bowles, in 1973.

Camilla welcomed two children in her previous marriage – Laura Lopes and Tom Parker Bowles –  before the pair divorced in 1995.
