Notre Dame softball pulled ahead in the race for the Mission League title by beating Chaminade 12-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Knights are now 3-0 in league play while Chaminade and Harvard-Westlake are tied for second at 2-1. They’ll play the Eagles again Monday and the Wolverines on Wednesday, April 16, in a game that was rescheduled due to rain.

In Tuesday’s game, Aliyah Garcia hit 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a stolen base and also pitched five innings, giving up one run while striking out five hitters. Jackie Morales was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Nadia Ledon was 1 for 3 with a solo home run, two RBIs and two runs. Adiah Fountain was 1 for 3 with three RBIs.

Notre Dame was without Haley Maldonado and Claire Cowles, who were out due to illness.

Ledon provided a spark for the offense with a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the first inning.

“She’s a really good table setter,” Notre Dame head coach Justin Siegel said of Ledon via a phone call after the game. “That’s always encouraging as a team. You want your team to get a rhythm of having good at-bats. You want your team to get into a rhythm of being ready and to play a game.”

Five Mission League games remain on Notre Dame’s schedule, which is keeping the Knights focused on the present.

“You’re going to hear me say this a million times,” Siegel said. “The game is about one pitch at a time. It’s not a cliche. It’s one pitch at a time and this is such a difficult game. Worrying about the next pitch is the most important thing.”

Oaks Christian (9-3, 3-1) beat Newbury Park 9-4 on Tuesday and sits in second place. Westlake and Thousand Oaks are 3-2 and tied for third place.
