Just over two weeks ago, Jofra Archer was the centre of memes after bowling the most expensive spell in IPL history. Fast forward to the GT vs RR game on Wednesday, the England quick has bounced with a spell of searing fast bowling. Archer sent Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill’s stumps flying with a peach of a delivery to put the Royals on top early in Ahmedabad.

Archer roars back to form
Jofra Archer had an outing to forget in his first game of IPL 2025. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, the English pacer conceded 76 in his four overs, the most expensive spell in IPL history. The 30-year-old looked off colour and struggled to get his pace going. In the first two matches, Archer went for 0/109 in 6.3 overs. However, as the tournament has progressed, Archer has settled into a rhythm and is back to his dangerous best. He picked up 3/25 in the game against Punjab Kings last time out.
On Wednesday, Jofra Archer bowled with some venom, beating Sai Sudharsan with his very first ball. He followed it up with some extra bounce, keeping both the GT openers on their toes. He reaped a reward in his second over, casting Shubman Gill with a test-match-like bowling length. Archer hit the good length, and the ball nipped back to go through Gill’s defence. The GT captain made the long walk back as the Royals’ pacer roared in delight.
Such was Archer’s initial spell, that former IPL superstar Dale Steyn was in awe.

Jofra Archer’s return to form is good news for England. Archer has struggled for fitness over the past few years but is still very much in England’s Test match plans. Ben Stokes and Co. will welcome India for a five-match series soon after the IPL 2025, and Archer will once again go up against Shubman Gill. The 30-year-old will hope to have the India counterpart’s number again, given the friendly conditions in England.
