Former New Zealand National Cricket Team player Simon Doull shared his take on Digvesh Rathi getting fined by BCCI for his celebrations in the ongoing IPL 2025. He said that the spinner hasn't done anything wrong and he has seen senior Indian players do worse.
Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi has made himself a huge name in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The mystery spinner is one of the players to watch out for this year, as he has made a decent impact on his team, helping them win crucial games.
More than his performances, Rathi has gained the limelight for his celebrations after the wickets. The Lucknow Super Giants spinner has come up with the notebook celebrations, and this hasn't gone well with the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
During the game against the Punjab Kings, he gave a send-off to Priyansh Arya and then also came up with similar celebrations against Mumbai Indians. After both the games, he was fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for breaching the code of conduct
He also received one demerit point along with fine during the game against Punjab Kings and the against Mumbai Indians, his Level 1 code of conduct breach came with a bigger fine as a result. The offense also earned him two demerit points to go with the one he had from the earlier occasion.

But, this didn't stop him from doing the celebration during the game against Kolkata Knight Riders. After removing Sunil Narine, Digvesh Rathi came up another notebook celebration but this time, he went away from the batter and wrote something on the ground.
However, thankfully for him, he didn't face any more fines for his celebrations. But, things don't stop here for him. If he gets fined another time, he might end up getting banned as per the IPL rules and code of conduct.

Simon Doull said that he loves celebrations by Digvesh Rathi, saying that the spinner hasn't done anything wrong. He cited examples of some of the big Indian players, saying that they have done worse. He lashed out at the BCCI for fining the young spinner. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said:
"The team have got to be paying that (the fines). I don't like it. I love the celebrations, I don't think he has done anything at all wrong. I've seen senior Indian players do way worse, be in your face, and not get a fine. They are making an example out of a young man who is what, making a note in his notebook?"
