De-Extinct Dire Wolf Has Fans Issuing the Same Warning

To quote one of Jeff Goldblum’s most iconic movie characters, “Life finds a way.”

But some people are sounding the alarm after life imitated art and a biotech company brought back an extinct animal, similar to the plot of that iconic Goldblum film, Jurassic Park.

Colossal Biosciences has reportedly revived the dire wolf, which last roamed the Earth over 10,000 years ago. If the species sounds familiar to you, the huge wolves played a major role in the Game of Thrones series as the faithful companions of the Stark family.

But that was a fantasy series, and in the real world, people are convinced that this could end badly.

“Guys how many times does Jurassic Park have to teach us this is a bad idea?” tweeted one concerned internet user as others agreed, taking to social media to ask, “Why bring back creatures that natural selection chose for extinction? What guardrails have been put in place?”

The topic even made its way over to The View, where panelists were convinced that it could go sideways on the April 8 episode of the morning talk show.

“They say they've got their eye on resurrecting the woolly mammoth. Why? And the dodo bird. Why?!” asked Whoopi Goldberg after introducing the topic.

“I don't like it. It's giving Jurassic Park for me… that didn't end well. The dinosaurs came back and ate the people,” said Sunny Hostin. When Alyssa Farah Griffin noted that the resurrected wolves are beautiful and can be up to six feet tall, Hostin countered that “they can tear off your face.”

Sara Haines chimed in to say that her issue is with a private company taking the helm on the project. “If it were for education or research, or there was a purpose to doing it,” she’d feel more comfortable, she said.

“The fact that this is just to show they can scares me,” she continued, comparing it to irresponsible pet owners who let their pets go in different ecosystems. “Part of the reason the dire wolf is extinct was due to a predatorial relationship so I just don’t know if you want to bring that back,” Haines shared.
