MASTERS bosses have asked a leading star to tone down his outfits after last year’s eye-catching show.
And he was even asked to remove his loud sweater during the tournament.
Jason Day caught the eye of fans and officials alike with his attire in 2024.
The former PGA Championship winner drew criticism from golf fans for how he dressed last April.
Day, 37, was seen in a bold Malbon Golf sweater which featured large black and red writing.
He also wore very baggy slacks on the course at the Augusta National.
But Day revealed he was asked to “tone down” by bosses for 2025.
The Australian star was appearing on the Dan on Golf podcast.
He said, “If they would have let us do what we first put the scripting through to them, it would have been a lot crazier than last year.
“But it’ll be toned down – they asked to see the scripting before.
“The funny thing was that they never asked to see scripting of mine because I’ve always been pretty neutral and down the middle.
“This year they asked because obviously what happened last year.”
In a separate interview with Golf.com, Day said, “So we have to get clearance on the scripting this year.
“To Malbon’s credit, they’ve got some bold stuff, but I’m not sure if it’ll pass.
“So we’ll see how it goes- hopefully they will say yes.
“If not, then we’ll be going back to the drawing board and trying to come up with something different.”
Day’s best finish at the Masters was when he tied for second in 2011.
Last year he finished in a tie for 30th place.
He has four top-ten finishes in total at the Augusta National.
The last of those was a tie for fifth in 2019 when Tiger Woods memorably won the green jacket.
Day told reporters that he was asked to remove his sweater during last year’s tournament.
“Respectfully, you do that because it’s all about the tournament here,” the 37-year-old said.
“I understand that. I respect the tournament.
“That’s what we’re here to do is try and play and win the green jacket.”
