Walter Clayton Jr. and Will Richard headlined the 5-man March Madness All-Tournament team after helping Florida capture the national championship on Monday night.
In the 65-63 win over Houston, Richard scored 18 points while Clayton added 11. Richard made huge plays all throughout the night. Clayton, held scoreless in the first half, got a pair of and-1s to go midway through the second half that helped Florida level the game.
Clayton was also named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. He averaged 22.3 points per game en route to the title. In the process, he became the first player since Larry Bird to post back-to-back 30-point games in the Elite Eight and national semifinal.
Richard averaged 11.5 points per game during the tournament. He also had 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a blocked shot on Monday night. In 6 tourney games, Richard had 9 steals and averaged 5 rebounds per game.
The 2 Gator guards were joined on the All-Tournament team by Duke forward Cooper Flagg, Houston guard LJ Cryer, and Houston forward J’Wan Roberts.
Flagg helped Duke to the Final Four. The Blue Devils lost a heartbreaker to Houston last Saturday. Flagg averaged 21.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game in the tournament.
Cryer was the only Houston player to reach double figures scoring on Monday night. He finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds on 6-of-18 shooting. He made 4 triples in the game. The senior guard averaged 18.7 points per game in the NCAA Tournament. He scored 30 in the second-round win over Gonzaga and 26 in the Final Four victory over Duke.
Roberts averaged 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in the tourney. He had an 18-point, 8-rebound, 5-assist game against Gonzaga and an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double against Duke. Roberts also had 5 assists, 2 steals, and a block against the Blue Devils.
