ELTON John and Madonna have ended their bitter feud after the piano playing superstar lit up SNL at the weekend.
The two pop legends haven’t seen eye to eye for years with Elton reserving some of his cattiest comments for the Like A Virgin singer, once branding her a “fairground stripper”.
But time has finally proved a healer for one of the music industry’s frostiest fallouts.
Nearing 80, Sir Elton appears to be softening and issued a two-word plea to Madonna to fix things between them.
Sharing a picture of them standing side by side on Instagram, Madge, 66, wrote, “We Finally Buried the Hatchet!!!
“I went to see @eltonjohn perform on SNL this weekend!! WOW.
“I remembered when I was in high school – I snuck out of the house one night to see Elton perform live in Detroit! It was an unforgettable performance that helped me understand the transformative power of music.
“Seeing him perform when I was in high school changed the course of my life. I had always felt like an outsider growing up and watching him on stage helped me to understand that it was OK to be different-to stand out- to take the road, less traveled by. In fact, it was essential.”
A collaboration between the pair is the thing of dreams and could rival his partnership Brandi Carlile for their soon to be released Who Believes In Angels? album.
And perhaps the coming together of the two icons shouldn’t come as a complete surprise.
In 2023 Elton heaped praise on Madonna for supporting a cause close to his heart.
He wrote at the time, “We’re deeply moved by the heartfelt tribute from @madonna during her Celebration Tour performance of ‘Live to Tell’, honouring the 40.4 million people we’ve lost to AIDS.
“Thank you, Madonna, for your advocacy and compassion, and for raising important awareness of the ongoing mission to end AIDS.”
The pair had once been pals and even performed onstage together, but Elton had nothing nice to see about her early noughties output and described Die Another Day as “the worst Bond tune ever”.
Things escalated in 2004 when he criticised the Queen of Pop’s nomination for Best Live Act at the Q Awards.
Taking to the stage, Elton shocked guests when he said, “Madonna, best live act? F**k off. Since when has lip-syncing been live? Sorry about that, but I think everyone who lip-syncs on stage in public when you play like 75 quid to see them should be shot.”
In 2012, Elton tripled down and told reporters: “Her career is over. Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn’t happen to a bigger c***. She looks like a f***ing fairground stripper.”
Elton recently revealed his deteriorating health issues are impacting his family life and career.
He lost vision in his right eye in July after contracting an infection on holiday in the South of France, and at the time admitted his left eye is “not the greatest.”
Now the Tiny Dancer hitmaker has told of the impact of his condition, and told an interviewer from The Times: “I can see you, but I can’t see TV, I can’t read.
“I can’t see my boys playing rugby and soccer, and it has been a very stressful time because I’m used to soaking it all up.”
Elton and husband David Furnish, 62, share sons Zachary, 14, and Elijah, aged 12.
