Arsenal will bid to go one step further in the Champions League this season as Mikel Arteta strives to deliver European glory.
The Gunners return to the quarter-finals of UEFA’s premier competition this week, having been knocked out by Bayern Munich at this stage last year.
Prior to last campaign, Arsenal had endured a bit of a lean spell when it came to the Champions League, having been away from Europe’s elite for six years before.
Before that, the north Londoners had been competing with the powerhouses on the continent for 17 consecutive campaigns.
Mikel Arteta‘s task to deliver the European Cup couldn’t be any more difficult with Champions League royalty and reigning holders Real Madrid awaiting in the quarter-finals.
Have Arsenal ever won the Champions League?
The Gunners have never lifted the Champions League or the European Cup in any of its iterations.
A record six English clubs have won a total of 15 titles, with Manchester City the most recent following their 2023 win over Inter Milan.
Liverpool remain the Premier League’s leading side on six Champions Leagues, although the Reds can’t add a seventh this term.
Manchester United are next up on three titles, with Chelsea (two), Nottingham Forest (two), and Aston Villa (one), also claiming Europe’s top honour.
During Arsenal’s 17-season consecutive stay in the Champions League, they only reached the final once under Arsene Wenger.
However, the Gunners fell to a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the 2005/06 campaign, and eight of the next 11 years yielded round of 16 exits.
Arsenal will reach their first Champions League semi-final since the 2008/09 season should Arteta’s men overcome Madrid this month.

Arsenal lost their only ever Champions League finalGettyHow many European Cups do Arsenal have?
The Gunners have never won any of UEFA’s current three competitions, which include the Champions League, Europa League or the Europa Conference League.
Of course, they’ve never competed in the Europa Conference League, with the third tier only being introduced in the 2021/22 season.
Arsenal did make the Europa League final under now-Aston Villa boss Unai Emery – only to lose 4-1 to Chelsea during the 2018/19 campaign.
But the north Londoners do still have two recognised European honours to their name.
Arsenal have won the 1970 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup – widely considered a pre-cursor to the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League) although it was not a UEFA-sanctioned competition
The Emirates outfit have also claimed the more prestigious European Cup Winners’ Cup under George Graham in 1994.
Arsenal’s last European success was the 1994 Cup Winners CupGettyThe competition, which was abolished in 1999, was for the winners of European cup competitions, for which Arsenal qualified for having won the FA Cup the year before.
At the time, it was considered UEFA’s second most important tournament after the European Cup/Champions League.
