Jay North, likely best known for his role as the '50s menace Dennis in the appropriately titled series Dennis the Menace, has died. He was 73.
Longtime friend and series co-star Jeannie Russell, who played his friend Margaret Wade on the show, shared the "terribly sad" news with "dear friend" Laurie Jacobson, who announced it in a Facebook post on the afternoon of Sunday, April 6, sharing that his death was "not unexpected" for them.
According to Jacobson, North was "fighting cancer for a number of years" and succumbed to his battle around noon EST the same day.

"Jay passed peacefully at home," she announced, posting black and white photos from his childhood along with her message.
"As many of his fans know, he had a difficult journey in Hollywood and after...but he did not let it define his life," she added. "He had a heart as big as a mountain, loved his friends deeply. He called us frequently and ended every conversation with 'I love you with all my heart.' And we loved him with all of ours."
"A life-long friend of Jon's, a brother to Jeanne and a dear friend to me, we will miss him terribly," she concluded. "He is out of pain now. His suffering is over. At last he is at peace."
