It seemed like it was only a matter of time before Duke would be celebrating in the locker room after clinching a spot in the national title game.
The Blue Devils were leading the Cougars by 14 points midway through the second half. Even with just 33 seconds, Duke was up 67-61. However, Duke was outscored 9-0 in that stretch and lost 70-67.
For the Duke fans that didn’t travel to San Antonio, they were able to watch the game at Cameron Indoor Stadium. As you can imagine, the energy in Cameron Indoor Stadium disappeared quickly.

— Tom George (@TheTomGeorge) April 6, 2025The Blue Devils were the favorites entering the NCAA Tournament, and had one of the better teams in recent memory for Duke. The Blue Devils haven’t won a national title since 2015, and have only been to the Final Four twice. The other appearance was in Mike Krzyzewski’s final season in 2021-22, when Duke lost to North Carolina.
The loss is the end of a special era for Duke, as the roster figures to look much different next season. Wooden Award winner Cooper Flagg and fellow freshman Kon Knueppel are both expected to be off to the NBA and hear their names very early in the 2025 NBA Draft.
