Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), participated in the Museum Summit 2025 held in Hong Kong,China under the theme “Going Beyond.”
The event was held in partnership with the Guimet Museum – National Museum of Asian Art (France).
Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy noted that Egypt’s participation in the Museums Summit 2025, for the first time, is an important step towards strengthening its leading role in protecting global cultural heritage and affirms its commitment to developing a more sustainable and influential museum sector internationally.
The CEO of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, al-Tayyeb Abbas, explained that the summit addressed several key topics, including capacity building and training in the cultural heritage sector, exchanging ideas on protecting museums from potential 21st century risks, and discussing how museums can benefit from technological developments and the tourism industry.
They also touched on promoting sustainability practices, developing community well-being, and achieving economic returns.
In her speech at the opening session of the summit, the Deputy CEO for Administration and Operations of the NMEC, Fayrouz Fikry, reviewed the museum’s efforts towards revitalizing cultural tourism.
The summit concluded with several recommendations, including an emphasis on the importance of international cooperation in the field of museums and the need to develop innovative strategies to protect cultural heritage and enhance its sustainability.
There was particular focus given on integrating technology into museum displays and achieving integration between culture and tourism.
The summit is a prominent international event in the world of museums, playing a significant role in promoting cultural dialogue and cooperation between global museum institutions.
This year, the summit’s fourth edition saw the participation of more than 30 prominent figures and specialists in the museum and heritage sector from 17 countries around the world.
In a first, Egypt, Hungary, Norway, Qatar, and Turkey joined the participating countries, reflecting growing international interest towards enhancing cooperation in culture and heritage protection.
