Shafaq News/ Two Israeli embassy staffmembers were killed Wednesday night outside the Capital Jewish Museum inWashington, DC, in what authorities described as “a politically motivated”attack.
According to Western media outlets, thevictims, a couple planning to get engaged, were gunned down shortly after leavingan event at the museum, located in a tightly secured zone near the FBI’sWashington field office and the US attorney’s headquarters.
Washington Metropolitan Police ChiefPamela Smith identified the suspect as Elias Rodriguez, 30, who was arrested atthe scene without resistance. According to Smith, Rodriguez had been lingeringoutside the museum prior to the attack.
Witness Sara Marinuzzi, 28, told CNN theattacker initially pretended to be a bystander, recalling, “He told security tocall the police. When officers arrived, he confessed, yelling, ‘I did it, I didit for Gaza. Free Palestine!’”
The killings sparked swift condemnationfrom US and Israeli leaders. President Donald Trump labeled the shooting an actof “antisemitism,” calling for immediate justice. “Hatred and Radicalism haveno place in the USA,” he wrote on Truth Social.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog and USSecretary of State Marco Rubio also denounced the incident.
