A couple of hours before the Mumbai Indians (MI) clash with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), we got an update on Jasprit Bumrah’s injury status. The latest was that the pacer will miss not just the match against LSG on March 4 but also the next game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Hardik Pandya on Jasprit Bumrah
At the toss for the LSG vs MI match, Hardik Pandya opted to bowl first. He stated the usual to start with, but things took a turn towards the end. The all-rounder dropped the bombshell that Rohit Sharma will miss the match due to a knee injury which he sustained in the nets.
But then he was asked about Jasprit Bumrah and when he will return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. One hoped Hardik would reveal some inside information. But that wasn’t the case.
“Bumrah should be back soon,” Hardik told Ian Bishop after winning the toss at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
The fast bowler had sustained a back injury in Sydney, Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and has been at the Centre of Excellence (formerly National Cricket Academy) ever since returning to India.
Due to the injury, Bumrah has missed two white-ball series against England, the Champions Trophy 2025 and four matches of the IPL 2025 season. We still don’t know when he’ll return to MI or competitive cricket.
Sources indicate that Bumrah is extremely cautious regarding his comeback. If he returns prematurely, it can cost him in the long run. That doesn’t just mean missing the England vs India Test series but also potentially the Asia Cup 2025 and the T20 World Cup 2026.
