Running back James Cook is putting the pressure on the Buffalo Bills.
The star running back is heading into the last year of his rookie contract and has yet to secure an extension.
Cook has turned into one of the most productive running backs in the league with the Bills.
He was drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Cook started slow in his first season, serving as a No. 2 back. He only compiled 507 yards with two touchdowns.
However, he showed what he can do with the starting job in 2023 and ran for 1,122 yards with two touchdowns.
Cook broke out in a major way in 2024, rushing for 1,009 yards with a league-leading 16 touchdowns.
However, despite all of his efforts, Cook has yet to be rewarded with a new contract.
It also appears that a new contract isn’t a priority for the Bills either.
Team general manager Brandon Beane said at the NFL league meetings that a contract for Cook isn’t coming “anytime soon.”
“I love Jimbo. Proud of his success just like these other guys that we got extended,” Beane said, via WKBW.
“I don’t talk about negotiations. I would say his reps and him did put it out there that we did talk, so I’m not sharing anything new.
“It didn’t lead to anything as far as closing in on a deal, so we moved onto the guys that we were on the same page with.
“At this points, we’re onto the draft.. I don’t see us doing any deals anytime soon.”
It appears that Cook might have caught on to the notion that the Bills aren’t making him a priority, and he is taking action.
Cook listed his Orchard Park house on the real estate market.
The home was bought in 2022 by an LLC owned by his brother, Dalvin Cook.
NFL important dates 2025 season
March 12 - Free Agency begins
April 24-26 – NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin
September 4 – 2025 season opener (TBC vs Eagles)
November 27 – Thanksgiving Day triple header

Regardless of who bought it, it is now up for sale.
Cook is currently making $5.3 million, but he has made it known that he wants $15 million per season on a new contract.
That would make Cook the third-highest paid running back in the NFL behind Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey.
While he isn’t getting his extension right now, the Bills have emphasized there could be a moment for it in the future.
“Just because we don’t have James signed today doesn’t mean next year we still can’t get him done before he gets to free agency,” Beane said.
