A low-pressure system over Southern California will keep cool temperatures and periodic showers in place through Thursday, with the heaviest rain expected in San Diego County, according to the National Weather Service.
Rainfall amounts will range from 0.05 to 0.20-inch at lower elevations to 0.20 to 0.50-inch at higher elevations, while light snowfall in the mountains is expected to bring accumulations of 2-4 inches, with flurries possible as low as 4,000 feet.
Very cool weather will persist Thursday, with highs 10-20 degrees below normal, including 30s in higher mountain elevations and around 60 degrees in many coastal areas.
In other parts of the county, high temperatures Thursday are expected to reach around 60 in the western valleys, 50 to 55 near the foothills, 44 to 54 in the mountains and 66 to 70 in the deserts.
Winds in the mountains and deserts will reach 20-30 mph, with gusts over 45 mph on the desert slopes. Blowing dust may reduce visibility in desert areas, the NWS said.
By the weekend, a warming trend will take hold as the low-pressure system moves east and a ridge of high pressure builds over the region. Temperatures will return to seasonal averages by Sunday and climb to 10–15 degrees above average in inland areas by the middle of next week.
