PARKER, Colo. (KDVR) — A mother had to search for her son after a drunk driver crashed into the family's car along South Chambers Road and Mainstreet in Parker in April 2024.
That mother spoke out on Tuesday, a day after a man from Elizabeth pleaded guilty in the case.
“I was a mess. I didn't know what the outcome of anything was going to be,” Lampasona said.
Lampasonas daughter was severely injured and so was her 12-year-old son who had been thrown from the car, even though he was buckled in.
“All we could do is just pray over him and pray so that we could get help as soon as possible and that somebody could relieve what was going on in that moment,” Lampasona said.
The 23rd Judicial District Attorney said 32-year-old Chase Albert Lein pleaded guilty Monday to felony vehicular assault and felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. District Attorney George Brauchler told FOX31 that Lein was driving with four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
The crash happened at 6:20 p.m. on a weekday.
“DUIs can happen anywhere at any time on any road and unless you're going to be a shut-in in this community and never leave your basement. You are at risk every time we get on the road from a drunk driver,” Brauchler said.

Lampasona has gone through a number of medical procedures since the crash and so has her daughter. All three are still healing after a crash that could have killed them all.
Brauchler said the driver faces up to 25 years in prison but could be out in eight because of the way Colorado laws are structured. Lein's sentencing is set for early June.
A video of the crash is expected to be played during that sentencing. Lampasona plans to be there.
