Denvers snowiest month only recorded 2 inches in March

DENVER (KDVR) — March is known as Denver's snowiest month, but this year, it was quite the opposite, leaving the city with only a few inches.

The National Weather Service maintains that March is the snowiest month in Denver, with an average of 8.8 inches from 1991 to 2020 and 11.5 inches from 1882 to 2022. The snowiest March on record brought 35.2 inches of snow in 2003, while other years stayed near average, like 2024, which tallied 9.2 inches of snow.

March 2025 was one of the least snowy in Denver history

This March was unusually warm. While the month is usually 41.6 degrees on average, March 2025 sat at an average of 45.8 degrees, the 12th-warmest in Denver history. Along with the warm weather, there wasn't much snow either.

With only 2 inches on the ground, 2025 was the eighth least snowy March in history and wasn't far off from the least snowy March in history, when only trace amounts fell in 2017. This also occurred in 2012 and 1995.

That said, other areas of Colorado saw several snowstorms throughout the month.

While the metro was mostly dry, there were several snowstorms that caused issues along Interstate 70 and other major roadways, and leaving some areas with over a foot of snow during multi-day storms.

While the snowiest month is over, Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said the snow isn't over just yet. Heading into the beginning of April, there are chances for snow this week in Denver and in the mountains.

Light flurries are possible in the mountains on Tuesday, and snow will also move in on Saturday, which could lead to some accumulation along the Front Range.
