Volvo said the new system will be available in some European markets later this year, and would be rolled out globally later.
The Volvo Co-Pilot will be the primary user interface, removing the need for extra monitors or hardware.
When customers order Co-Pilot with Dig Assist from the factory, all necessary hardware and software comes installed, Volvo said. Operators just have to activate the Unicontrol3D app when they start.
“CoPilot is an open platform where we welcome partners to join us in delivering innovative solutions,” said Kurt Deleu, Head of Product Management for Excavators at Volvo CE.
“Unicontrol is the latest to come on board, bringing seamless and flexible 3D machine control to our customers,” he said, adding that the new functionality would bring “freedom, efficiency, and simplicity – without added complexity – on every job site”.
Unicontrol said its software integrates with any type of excavator, data format, and workflow, meaning contractors can use it in their mixed fleets without being locked into a single technology ecosystem.
“The demand for flexible and accessible 3D machine control has never been higher,” said Unicontrol chief executive Niels Bjerregaard.
