‘Everything you want’ – Arsenal told what Viktor Gyokeres offers over Benjamin Sesko and how he will fit into new-look team

Viktor Gyokeres is a complete striker who will guarantee Arsenal goals in abundance – something fellow target Benjamin Sesko cannot offer.

That’s the view of European football expert Andy Brassell, who believes the 26-year-old ticks every box Mikel Arteta is looking for as he plans a summer rebuild.

Gyokeres looks set for a big move this summer having scored almost 100 goals in two seasons at SportingGetty

The Sporting Lisbon forward has enjoyed another stunning season in Portugal – chipping in with 42 goals from as many games as well as providing 11 assists.

Having joined the club from Coventry in 2023, the Sweden international has found the back of the net on 85 occasions.

His goalscoring prowess have caught the eye of a number of top clubs, with new Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta adding him to the Gunners’ shortlist.

talkSPORT understands that Sporting would sell the player for around £58.5million – a significantly cheaper fee than Arsenal’s No.1 target Alexander Isak who has been valued at £150m by Newcastle.

The north London outfit are also known to be admirers of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who would be open to linking up at the Emirates.

Despite the 21-year-old tipped as a future world beater, there are question marks surrounding his end product.

And while ex-Watford striker Troy Deeney doesn’t believe that Gyokeres is a ‘natural finisher’, Brassell insists the player is the perfect striker.

Speaking on the Trans Europe Express show, Brassell said of Gyokeres: “I think people looked at his first season at Sporting [43 goals, 15 assists] and wondered whether that was sustainable.

“Then he came out the traps like nobody’s business this season, of course that hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League being one of the things that really pulled the rug from under City this season.

“He was coached very, very well by Ruben Amorim and has continued on his path since under Joao Pereira and Rui Borges.

Arteta has made bringing a centre-forward to the Emirates his top priorityGetty Gyokeres is just eight goals away from banging in 50 for Sporting this season

“The fact is, he’s got everything you want in a centre-forward. He’s quick, he’s strong, he’s big, he’s not easily intimidated, he can create as well as score.”

Brassell added: “Gyokeres has everything you could possibly need, and a lot of people I know that watch the Championship pretty closely, were surprised that it took Sporting to really have a go [on him].

“And I think Amorim had to beg the board really to buy him, it was a record transfer fee for Sporting of €20m [£16.7m] and has paid back several times over.

“And when they sell him, they will sell him for a conservative estimate of least three times that.

“So I think what you’re seeing already is Andrea Berta, the new sporting director who has joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid, he has clearly got his say on things.

“Which is important I think to have a different opinion and ideas in the room because it was previously thought that the fit for Arsenal was Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko has banged in 17 goals this term – yet there are still question marks over his finishingGetty

“That he was the guy because he was young, because he may fit into the way Arsenal play.

“But actually, Gyokeres does have technical ability, plenty of technical ability, but he’s more of a battering ram and more of a pure scorer than Sesko is.”

Commenting on whether Gyokeres could be the signing that fires Arsenal to a first Premier League title since 2004, Brassell stated: “If we’re talking about something that Arsenal are really missing.

“Someone who takes responsibility and is a scorer of important goals in important games and is not intimidated by the best of defenders, Gyokeres is a great bet.”

It’s expected to be a busy summer at the Emirates as Arteta looks to shake up his front line in his mission to get Arsenal back playing free-flowing football.

And Gyokeres could be one a number of high-profile arrivals who will instantly walk into the line-up.

David Raya is expected to keep his starting spot between the sticks – despite rumours linking Arsenal with his Spanish compatriot Joan Garcia.

Jurrien Timber and Ben White will likely battle for a right-back spot, with Myles Lewis-Skelly getting the nod over Riccardo Calafiori on the other side of defence and William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes to continue their centre-back partnership.

With Thomas Partey and Jorginho set to depart as free agents, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi has been identified to become Arsenal’s next No.6 in a £51m deal.

The Euro 2024 winner’s arrival would see skipper Martin Odegaard and club-record signing Declan Rice to continue being deployed in their box-to-box roles.

Hale End graduate Bukayo Saka will surely start at right wing over Ethan Nwaneri, with Nico Williams to potentially feature on the opposite flank should an agreement be reached with Athletic Bilbao.

And should Arsenal secure Gyokeres’ signature, he would be tasked with leading the line over injured stars Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

This could be how Arsenal could start next season should they land three major signings
