Severe Weather: Damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes possible in Charlotte Monday afternoon

(PINPOINT WEATHER) -- Monday starts the work week off with a threat of afternoon storms and the potential for storms to pack a punch. We start off mild and comfortable with the 60s locked in from the I-40 corridor south towards I-85.

Temperatures start off in the low to mid-60s this Monday morning as we hold on to some of the warmth from the weekend. Winds have settled into the single digits for the morning but will continue to be breezy this afternoon out of the south-southwest.

Look for an approaching cold front to bring the threat of severe weather heading into this afternoon and evening. Storms will likely start west of I-77 and north of I-85 between 1 & 3 PM this afternoon. The risk of damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado will track over Uptown between 3 & 6 PM Monday, with the storm threat pushing east of I-77 between 5 PM and 8 PM.

Uptown and surrounding areas are under an enhanced risk for severe weather on Monday, which is level three out of five. We can expect a number of spotty power outages as damaging winds, large hail, and the risk of an isolated tornado will likely lead to downed tree limbs and compromised power lines.

Lingering showers will taper off overnight as temperatures dip into the low 50s heading into Tuesday. We’ll be dry for the second day of the work week as the low 70s and sunny skies dominate. We'll hold on to the low 70s through mid-week as rain chances return on Wednesday. Showers and storms linger into Thursday, with much warmer temperatures moving in for the end of the work week.

Look for upper 80s and near 90-degree temperatures to settle in Friday heading into Saturday. We’ll be dry for the end of the work week and the start of the weekend, but Sunday can bring cooler temperatures and the return of rain chances to end the weekend.

Monday: Mostly Cloudy & Warm with Afternoon Storms. High: 76.

Monday Night: Partly Cloudy and Cool with Lingering Showers. Low: 50.
