King Charles was admitted to the hospital on Thursday, March 27 due to side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment.

As a result, he has canceled all his public engagements set for Friday, March 28, according to the BBC. He also canceled a meeting set for Thursday with a trio of ambassadors, according to a Buckingham Palace spokesperson. Instead, he has returned to Clarence House where he is reportedly making calls from his study and working on state papers, per the outlet.
The King’s canceled plans included a trip to Birmingham on Friday, along with a tour of the Royal Ballet in that city.
"Tomorrow, he was due to undertake four public engagements in Birmingham and is greatly disappointed to be missing them on this occasion," the palace's statement said, according to the BBC.
"He very much hopes that they can be rescheduled in due course and offers his deepest apologies to all those who had worked so hard to make the planned visit possible," the statement added.
The hospital visit was described by a palace source as a “most minor bump in the road that is very much heading in the right direction,” per the BBC.
The King’s cancer diagnosis was first announced by the palace in February 2024, but it has yet to announce the type of cancer.
